Synopsis

London, 1676—a world of glittering chandeliers, powdered wigs, and whispered intrigues

Dorimant is the epitome of the Restoration rake: charming, witty, and utterly unscrupulous. In a society where appearances are everything, Dorimant navigates the tangled web of love, lust, and deceit with effortless grace. He is embroiled in a dangerous game, juggling multiple lovers—Mrs. Loveit, a jealous mistress; Bellinda, her crafty confidante; and the young, naive heiress Harriet—all while maintaining his reputation as the most desirable man in town. But as his schemes grow more intricate, the lines between love and manipulation begin to blur, and Dorimant finds himself ensnared in the very traps he set for others.

The Man of Mode is a sparkling comedy of manners, a satirical portrait of a society obsessed with appearance, reputation, and the pursuit of pleasure. The play’s tone is sharp, witty, and brimming with the kind of biting social commentary that defined the Restoration era.
