Synopsis
A cramped kitchen in a Barbadian home, where simmering tensions and long-held frustrations are about to boil over into absurd chaos.
Kenroy and Joyann, a couple on the brink, find their relationship spiraling into madness when Kenroy’s attempts to better himself through a dubious training program collide with Joyann’s paranoia and need for control. As misunderstandings escalate and neighbors intrude, what begins as a domestic dispute morphs into a farcical hostage situation involving a scammer, nosy neighbors, and a casket in the living room.
Jherad Alleyne’s riotous comedy skewers the struggles of working-class Barbadians caught between aspiration and exploitation. Through rapid-fire dialogue peppered with Bajan dialect and escalating situations bordering on the surreal, Scam-Uh-Life explores themes of economic anxiety, relationship dynamics, and the desperation to escape life’s cycles. The play’s manic energy and blend of humor and pathos offer a biting critique of systemic inequality while celebrating the resilience and wit of its characters.
