Synopsis
The peak district
Thomas grapples with his sense of belonging and identity. The play opens with him standing in his hallway, feeling disconnected from his family and life, then sets off on a walk that becomes a journey through both the physical landscape and the historical and emotional terrain of Black British identity. The men’s conversations, interspersed with poetic interludes from their ancestors, reveal a deep connection to the land and a longing for recognition and belonging. As they traverse the Yorkshire countryside, they confront both personal and collective histories, reflecting on the challenges of being Black in a predominantly white rural environment.
The play’s structure blends realistic dialogue with lyrical, poetic elements, creating a rich, immersive narrative that speaks to themes of identity, heritage, and resilience.
