Synopsis

London, present day. A sterile corporate room becomes a battleground of ethics, ambition, and identity

Frank, a quirky anthropology graduate, arrives for a job interview at a shadowy market research firm. His interviewers, the jaded Dr Pitt and the ambitious Dr Gray, subject him to increasingly bizarre and unethical scenarios. As the interview spirals out of control, it becomes clear that more than just a job is at stake.

April De Angelis’s Wild East is a darkly comic and surreal exploration of corporate culture, ethical boundaries, and the human cost of unchecked capitalism. Through a series of increasingly absurd role-plays and confrontations, the play peels back the layers of its characters’ psyches, revealing the desperation and moral compromises that lurk beneath their professional veneers. De Angelis’s dialogue pulsates with tension and dark humour, while her non-linear structure and moments of magical realism create a disorienting, dreamlike atmosphere. The play tackles themes of globalisation, cultural exploitation, personal identity, and the corruption of idealism in a world where everything, even ancient artifacts and human souls, can be commodified.
