Synopsis

A small flat in South Wales, where family ties are tested and toxic masculinity festers.

Liam, a 16-year-old Londoner, moves in with his estranged father Rick (nicknamed “Vile”) after his mother’s death. As Liam navigates his new life in Wales, including a budding relationship with local girl Jen, he struggles to connect with his volatile father. Their fragile dynamic is further strained when Liam’s actions with Jen lead to accusations of sexual assault, forcing father and son to confront the darker aspects of their relationship and identities.

Owen’s raw and unflinching play explores the complexities of father-son relationships, the cyclical nature of violence, and the dangerous allure of toxic masculinity. Through sharp dialogue and morally ambiguous characters, Violence and Son challenges audiences to examine how patterns of aggression and emotional manipulation are passed down through generations.
