Synopsis

A care home in contemporary Cuba, where memories and regrets hang heavy in the air

Verónica Segura, a 76-year-old woman dying of cancer, grapples with her desire to return home and make amends with her estranged children. As she navigates her final days, her daughter Taca and son Laidio visit, revealing long-buried family tensions and resentments. Verónica’s interactions with a caring Nurse highlight her internal struggle between her revolutionary ideals and her role as a mother.

Mendizábal Álvarez’s poignant drama explores themes of family dynamics, political ideology, and the legacy of Cuba’s revolution. Through raw, emotionally charged dialogues and introspective monologues, the play delves into the complexities of maternal love, personal sacrifice, and the lasting impact of political convictions on family relationships. Verónica offers a nuanced look at generational conflict and the search for reconciliation in the face of mortality.
