Synopsis
On the shores of Illyria, shipwrecked twins set in motion a whirlwind of mistaken identity, unrequited love, and mischievous pranks.
Viola, disguised as the male page Cesario, finds herself at the center of a complex love triangle. She falls for her employer, Duke Orsino, who pines for the mourning Countess Olivia, who in turn becomes infatuated with the disguised Viola. Meanwhile, Viola’s twin brother Sebastian, believed dead, arrives in Illyria, further complicating matters.
Shakespeare’s beloved comedy explores themes of gender fluidity, self-discovery, and the transformative power of love. The play deftly balances romantic entanglements with raucous subplots, as Olivia’s drunken uncle Sir Toby Belch and his companions wage a campaign of humiliation against her stern steward Malvolio.
Through a series of increasingly farcical misunderstandings and revelations, Twelfth Night asks profound questions about the nature of identity, desire, and self-deception. The characters must navigate a world where nothing is quite as it seems, and love can strike in the most unexpected places.
