Synopsis
An English village, 1969. Amidst clay pots and marital strife, a young man navigates the chaos of Trixie and Baba’s turbulent lives
Trixie and Baba is a dark comedy that paints a vivid picture of a dysfunctional couple, Trixie and Baba, who run a struggling pottery business. The couple hires a young man to help out, but he quickly becomes embroiled in their constant bickering and the absurdity of their lives. The play is a satirical take on the traditional dynamics of marriage and work, showcasing Antrobus’s sharp wit and keen eye for the eccentricities of human behaviour.
Set in a quaint English village, the play’s narrative unfolds with a blend of farcical elements and poignant moments, capturing the essence of Antrobus’s unique style. The exaggerated psychological deficiencies of the characters add to the comedic yet critical examination of their lives, providing a lens through which the audience can reflect on the absurdities of their own societal norms.
Antrobus’s witty dialogue and the play’s satirical tone highlight the futility and humor found in everyday struggles. The themes revolve around marital discord, the pursuit of personal fulfilment, and the inherent chaos within seemingly mundane lives.
