Synopsis

A cluttered room in a shared house. The air thick with tension, as past and present collide in impossible way

Traps follows a group of young people living communally as their relationships shift and morph in surreal ways. At the centre are Jack, Syl, and Albert, whose domestic arrangements are disrupted by the arrival of Christie and her controlling husband Reg. As time bends and characters appear in impossible configurations, Churchill explores themes of power dynamics, gender roles, and the nature of reality itself.

Through its non-linear structure and deliberate contradictions, Traps challenges audience perceptions and subverts dramatic conventions. Characters’ ages, relationships, and even existence fluctuate from scene to scene, creating a dreamlike atmosphere where multiple realities coexist simultaneously. As the play progresses, Churchill asks: in a world of shifting truths, how do we define ourselves and our connections to others?
