Synopsis

Nottingham, 1945. A time of tentative hope, where the echoes of war collide with the promise of a new beginning

Sandra, a working-class woman grapples with the loss of her child, killed not by the war’s bombs but by a car during the blackout. As peace nears, Sandra and her sisters, Joan and Betty, confront their grief and embrace the fragile hope of a transformed future.

Lowe’s play is a poignant exploration of the personal and political upheavals of this transitional period. Through the lens of these women’s lives, the play delves into themes of loss, resilience, and the shifting social landscape as the first Labour government takes power and the atomic age dawns.

Lowe’s incisive dialogue and the play’s blend of private sorrow with public optimism vividly capture the era’s emotional landscape. Touched celebrates the strength and solidarity of women whose stories often go untold, providing a moving tribute to their silent endurance and unyielding hope.
