Synopsis

A country hotel. Trench, the chairman of TCC, sits in an armchair surrounded by his colleagues, reflecting on his career as they celebrate the company’s 30th anniversary.

In this complex, politically-charged play, Bond explores the ruthless nature of capitalism and the violent upheaval of revolution. When Trench is kidnapped by terrorists during a workers’ strike, the power dynamics within TCC shift dramatically. The play alternates between the boardroom machinations of Trench’s colleagues and the tense interactions between the terrorists and their captive. As the situation escalates, Bond forces us to confront uncomfortable questions about morality, power, and the true cost of social change.

Through its non-linear structure and juxtaposition of different worlds – the corporate boardroom, the terrorists’ hideout, and the workers’ picket line – the play examines themes of class struggle, political violence, and the dehumanising effects of capitalism. Bond’s unflinching portrayal of both the capitalists and the revolutionaries challenges audiences to consider the complex moral landscape of a society in crisis.
