Synopsis

Darkness. The breathing of a baby on a baby monitor. A kitchen strip light flickers on, revealing a glass box containing a normal kitchen, but something has happened.

Woman, lost in a surreal, nightmarish forest, finds an unconscious Boy and takes him to a dilapidated shack. As she struggles to care for him and keep him safe, she is tormented by Wolf, a shape-shifting entity that embodies her guilt and trauma. Through fragmented scenes that blur reality and fantasy, we gradually uncover the truth behind Woman’s presence in the woods and her relationship to the Boy.

Evans’ haunting play explores the devastating aftermath of postpartum psychosis and infanticide. Through its non-linear structure and dreamlike imagery, the play delves into themes of guilt, trauma, and the desperate desire for redemption. The woods serve as both a physical manifestation of Woman’s mental state and a liminal space where she must confront her actions and seek forgiveness.
