Synopsis

Anne shares her story of a troubled marriage and an abusive husband with two writers, Jennifer and Andrew. Intrigued by her story, they decide to turn it into a film, altering and embellishing it for dramatic effect. Anne’s life and identity become entangled with the fictional version of herself, leading to a complex interplay between her real experiences and the narrative constructed by others.

The lines between reality and fiction blur, raising questions about the ethics of storytelling and the manipulation of personal narratives for artistic and commercial purposes. The characters in the play, including Anne, Jennifer, Andrew, and others involved in the film project, find themselves caught in a web of illusions, betrayals, and shifting identities.

Ultimately, “The Treatment” is a dark, satirical examination of how stories are told and retold, often losing their connection to the truth in the process. It challenges the audience to consider the impact of turning personal pain into public entertainment and the consequences of losing control over one’s own story.
