Synopsis

A pub in the Scottish Borders becomes the unlikely setting for a supernatural journey through time, space, and folk tradition.

Prudencia Hart, a prim and proper academic specialising in border ballads, finds herself stranded in Kelso on a snowy Midwinter’s Eve. What begins as a frustrating academic conference soon transforms into a wild, metaphysical adventure that spans millennia and blurs the lines between reality and folklore.

Greig crafts a raucous, poetic exploration of Scottish identity, folk tradition, and the power of storytelling. Through a series of increasingly surreal encounters—including a riotous pub lock-in, a dance with the Devil, and an eternity spent in a hellish B&B—Prudencia’s rigid worldview is challenged and ultimately undone.

As the play weaves together elements of spoken word, music, and audience interaction, it poses a thought-provoking question: In a world where old traditions clash with modern sensibilities, can we find meaning and connection by embracing the transformative power of our shared stories?
