Synopsis

Baltinglass, County Dublin, 1932, in the bleak confines of a county home.

Thomas Dunne, once the proud Chief Superintendent of the Dublin Metropolitan Police, now spends his days grappling with the ghosts of his past.

Through a series of monologues and fragmented memories, Barry crafts a narrative that is both deeply personal and historically resonant. Dunne’s reflections reveal the inner turmoil of a man struggling to reconcile his past actions and the betrayal he feels from the country he served. His encounters with his daughters and the ghost of his son further illustrate the emotional and psychological depths of his character.

As we follow Dunne’s journey through his memories and his quest for forgiveness, the play leaves us pondering: how do we come to terms with the choices that define us, and what does true redemption look like?
