Synopsis

The Natural History Museum in London, a place where secrets unfold amid ancient relics.

Colin, a married man, meets his clandestine lover, Hilary, twice a week in the secluded corners of the museum, away from the prying eyes of society. Set against the backdrop of the museum’s hallowed halls, The Sponge Room unravels their illicit affair, capturing the tension and intimacy of their forbidden meetings.

The play’s minimalist setting and the emotional depth of its characters invite the audience to reflect on the nature of forbidden love and the lengths to which individuals go to preserve their secrets.

As the layers of their relationship are peeled away, the audience is left to ponder: what compels us to seek connection in the shadows, and at what cost do we guard our most hidden desires?
