Synopsis

A stage set for an intimate conversation, where a couple attempts to reignite their sex life in front of an audience.

James and Jessica, a couple in their late 30s, haven’t had sex in 14 months. In a desperate attempt to save their relationship, they agree to discuss their issues and potentially have sex on stage in front of an audience. As they navigate this awkward situation, they reveal their insecurities, past traumas, and the complexities of their relationship.

Neilson’s play is a darkly comedic exploration of modern relationships, sexual politics, and the impact of past traumas on intimacy. Through James and Jessica’s frank and often uncomfortable dialogue, the play delves into themes of consent, gender expectations, and the struggle to maintain desire in long-term relationships. The meta-theatrical setup, with the characters acknowledging and interacting with the audience, adds layers of tension and humour while highlighting the performative aspects of relationships and sexuality in contemporary society.
