Synopsis

A street house in a northern town and the surrounding street

Kit, an alcoholic, and her peddler husband Frank, lead an extended family that meanders through life. Each member harbors grandiose plans and dreams of escape, yet seems blind to their actual circumstances, except for Kit and her father Jessie. As the narrative unfolds, the children begin to leave, and Frank momentarily departs with his mistress. However, he quickly returns to Kit, finding himself unable to break away from the life they have built together.
