Synopsis

A fictional Nigerian called Ilujinle.

In the village of Ilujinle, Sidi, the most beautiful woman in the village, is pursued by two men with different views on life. Lakunle, the schoolteacher, represents modernity and wants to westernise the village, including marrying Sidi in a modern Christian ceremony. Baroka, the crafty and manipulative village chief, represents tradition and seeks to marry Sidi in the traditional African way.

The Lion and the Jewel is an exploration of African identity in a changing world. It celebrates the richness of African culture while acknowledging the complexities of progress and tradition.
