Synopsis

A drawing room in 19th-century Russia becomes a battleground of passion, jealousy, and moral philosophy.

Adapted from Leo Tolstoy’s controversial novella, this intense chamber piece follows the psychological unravelling of Pozdnyshev, a man consumed by jealousy over his wife’s musical partnership. As Beethoven’s eponymous sonata weaves through the narrative, it becomes both catalyst and mirror to the characters’ turbulent emotions.

Tolstoy’s searing critique of 19th-century marriage and sexual mores is brought to vivid life, challenging audiences to confront uncomfortable truths about desire, possession, and the human capacity for violence.Through its claustrophobic setting and unflinching examination of a mind torn apart by suspicion, The Kreutzer Sonata offers a timeless exploration of the destructive power of obsession and the complex interplay between love and hatred.
