Synopsis

A sparse cell on Robben Island, South Africa’s infamous apartheid-era prison.

Two political prisoners, John and Winston, forge a profound bond as they endure the brutal realities of incarceration under the apartheid regime. To maintain their spirits and dignity, they secretly rehearse Sophocles’ Antigone, drawing powerful parallels between the ancient Greek tragedy and their own struggle against oppression.

The Island is a searing indictment of apartheid and a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. Through John and Winston’s story, it explores profound themes of friendship, resistance, and the transformative power of art in the darkest of circumstances..
