Synopsis
In an oil tanker, unspecified but after WWII
In a bold quest, Ritsaat, a determined leader, assembles an eclectic group with a shared aim: travel through time and prevent communism by targeting the Antichrist. The plot thickens as they await a script from Lazarus and unexpectedly cross paths with two women after a boat collision. As some challenge Ritsaat’s dominance, the group finds themselves enacting Lazarus’ dramatic vision, with unforeseen consequences. Tensions mount, loyalties are tested, and the line between fiction and reality blurs, culminating in an intense, unforgettable finale.

What our readers say
What is it like reading this play now?
The core ideas in the play including fascism, socialism, workers’ rights, and freedom all still feel relevant. However, a lot of the language and representation including queer people, and people of colour feel dated. There is also a lot of sexual violence against women on stage that could be problematic if not staged with care.
What does it tell us about the past and the present?
I think it says a lot about the mindset of people post-WWII and during the Cold War era, and just how easy it is to fall into extreme ideas.
