Synopsis

A caravan parked on a front lawn, surrounded by the aftermath of devastating floods.

Valerie Tully and her neighbors grapple with the aftermath of severe flooding that has displaced them from their homes. Through a series of interconnected monologues and dialogues, we witness the physical and emotional toll of the disaster on individuals and communities. As they navigate life in temporary caravans, the residents reflect on their losses, the challenges of rebuilding, and their frustrations with bureaucracy and environmental mismanagement.

The Caravan is a powerful verbatim piece that explores themes of resilience, community, and the impact of climate change on everyday lives. Using the intimate setting of a caravan as its central metaphor, the play delves into the psychological effects of displacement and the ways in which people cope with trauma. Through its diverse cast of characters, the play offers a nuanced examination of class, local politics, and the human cost of environmental disasters. The non-linear structure and use of direct address create an immersive experience that challenges audiences to confront the realities of climate change and its disproportionate impact on vulnerable communities.
