Synopsis

East London, 1973. A single room becomes the battleground for a marriage on the brink

Sweet Talk by Michael Abbensetts is a compelling drama that examines the complexities of a faltering marriage set against the backdrop of urban life. The play focuses on Tony and Rita, a young West Indian couple whose relationship is strained by external pressures and personal discontent. Their home, a confined space, symbolizes the emotional and social barriers they face.

Abbensetts’ skillful blending of humour and pathos makes Sweet Talk a powerful commentary on the immigrant experience in Britain.
