Synopsis
A cracked mirror reflects a young woman’s face, her eyes haunted by the neon glow of a smartphone screen.
Sasha Clayton, a 24-year-old aspiring rapper from East London, finds herself adrift after being kicked out of her family home. Desperate for cash and validation, she tumbles down a rabbit hole of social media stardom and sex work. Under the tutelage of Carly, a savvy escort, Sasha transforms into “Sasha Alia,” an online persona that blurs the lines between empowerment and exploitation. As she chases likes, followers, and an elusive music career, Sasha grapples with the cost of her choices and the trauma of her past.
Nicôle Lecky’s Superhoe is a raw, unflinching exploration of identity, sexuality, and the digital age. Through Sasha’s rapid-fire monologues and hip-hop interludes, Lecky crafts a visceral portrait of a young woman caught between worlds – mixed-race in a white family, working-class in a gentrifying London, and desperately seeking connection in an increasingly virtual landscape. The play’s structure, jumping between Sasha’s internal narration and her online performances, mirrors the fractured nature of modern existence. As Sasha’s story unfolds, Superhoe asks uncomfortable questions about agency, exploitation, and the commodification of the self in an era where everyone is selling something.
