Synopsis
A small London flat, where three young women navigate the treacherous waters of friendship, love, and identity.
Lou and Tosh, two twenty-something friends sharing a flat, find their intense bond tested when Lou begins exploring her sexuality with a series of casual encounters. As Lou revels in her newfound freedom, Tosh grapples with jealousy and unspoken feelings, their relationship becoming increasingly fraught. The arrival of their old friend Fran, newly engaged and seemingly content with conventional romance, further complicates their dynamic.
Battye’s sharp, witty dialogue crackles with tension as the play delves into themes of female friendship, sexual empowerment, and the struggle for authenticity in a world of societal expectations. The non-linear structure mirrors the characters’ emotional turmoil, jumping between moments of intimacy, confrontation, and surreal interludes. Dark humor and raw vulnerability collide as Lou and Tosh’s codependent relationship unravels, forcing them to confront uncomfortable truths about themselves and each other. Through their journey, the play explores the complexities of modern relationships, the pressure to perform happiness, and the fear of being left behind in a rapidly changing world.
