Synopsis

London, 1960s

Len is a young and disillusioned working-class man living in 1960s London. Len’s days are marked by aimlessness, unemployment, and the search for meaning in a world that seems to offer little hope. He grapples with the harsh realities of poverty and alienation, feeling disconnected from society and its moral values.

Saved stirred immense controversy upon its debut, leading to censorship battles due to its raw and unflinching portrayal of violence and despair in working-class London. Its censorship highlighted the clash between artistic expression and societal mores of the time, eventually playing a significant role in the abolition of theatre censorship in the United Kingdom with the Theatres Act 1968.
