Synopsis

A surreal road trip unfolds across the American landscape, blending fact and fiction, past and present.

Ann, a meat processing plant worker, embarks on an unexpected journey of self-discovery, accompanied by the imagined spirits of Elvis Presley and Theodore Roosevelt. As they travel towards Graceland, these larger-than-life figures serve as both mentors and foils, pushing Ann to confront her own dreams, fears, and identity.

This inventive play weaves together historical anecdotes, pop culture references, and intimate personal moments to create a uniquely American tapestry. Through a series of vignettes that range from comical to poignant, the piece explores themes of masculinity, fame, personal growth, and the pursuit of happiness. The non-linear structure and blending of reality with fantasy reflect Ann’s internal struggle and gradually awakening sense of self. With its mix of humour, pathos, and surrealism, RoosevElvis offers a fresh take on the classic road trip narrative, examining what it means to find one’s place in a vast and complex nation.
