Synopsis

In the chaotic, oppressive confines of their squalid home, Mr. and Mrs. Twit’s cruelty knows no bounds as they terrorise their caged monkey captives and each other.

Monkey Dad, the de facto leader of the monkey family, narrates their miserable existence as captives of Mr. and Mrs. Twit, two vile and grotesque humans who take perverse pleasure in tormenting others. The monkeys are forced to perform humiliating tricks and live in constant fear. Despite their dire circumstances, the monkeys, led by Monkey Daughter’s ingenuity, concoct a plan to escape their cage using a key she meticulously constructs from various materials.

The Twits is a darkly comedic tale that explores themes of cruelty, resilience, and the triumph of cleverness over brutality. Walsh captures Dahl’s signature blend of humour and horror, bringing to life the vile antics of the Twits and the hopeful ingenuity of the monkeys. The tone is simultaneously whimsical and sinister, reflecting the grotesque and absurd nature of the characters and their actions.
