Synopsis

The opulent estate of Lord Are, early 18th century England

The corrupt Lord Are and his beleaguered servant Bob Hedges become embroiled in a scandal that exposes the rotting core of Restoration society. As Lord Are manipulates the legal system to save himself at Bob’s expense, Bond creates a grotesque mirror of contemporary power structures and social injustice.

Through sharp dialogue and dark humor, Restoration peels back the gilded veneer of aristocratic life to reveal the exploitation and moral bankruptcy beneath. Bond’s Brechtian approach amplifies the play’s themes of class struggle, corruption, and the dehumanizing effects of power. As Bob Hedges is sacrificed on the altar of his master’s ambition, the play forces audiences to confront uncomfortable truths about the nature of justice and the persistence of inequality across centuries.
