Synopsis

A grimy interrogation room in a New York City police station. The air is thick with cigarette smoke and tension as dawn approaches on 5th July.

Two world-weary police officers, Sergeant Kelly and Jack Delasante, interrogate Sean and Jimmy, suspects in the brutal murder of an elderly woman. As the night wears on, the lines between interrogator and suspect blur, revealing the fragile masculinity and deep-seated vulnerabilities of all four men. Meanwhile, Kelly grapples with his daughter’s increasing suicidal tendencies, forcing him to confront his own failings as a father and protector.

A Prayer for My Daughter is a searing exploration of masculinity in crisis, set against the backdrop of a post-Vietnam America struggling with its own identity. Babe’s taut dialogue crackles with tension, exposing the thin veneer of heroism that separates law enforcer from lawbreaker. Through its unflinching portrayal of flawed men pushed to their limits, the play offers a nuanced examination of fatherhood, violence, and the elusive nature of truth and justice in a morally ambiguous world.
