Synopsis
In the opulent private dining room of a gastropub, ten elite Oxford students prepare for a night of hedonism, privilege, and inevitable destruction.
James Leighton-Masters, the president of the Riot Club, an exclusive society for the wealthy and powerful, leads his fellow members in their debauched annual dinner. Among them are Guy Bellingfield, who revels in excess; Alistair Ryle, seething with resentment and ambition; and Miles Richards, a newer member struggling to reconcile his conscience with the club’s ethos. The evening spirals into chaos as their unchecked privilege and disdain for those outside their circle lead to a violent confrontation with Chris, the pub landlord, and his daughter Rachel. As the night unravels, the true nature of their privilege and the moral decay at the heart of their elite status are brutally exposed.
Posh is a sharp, satirical drama that delves into themes of privilege, power, class conflict, and moral decay. The play’s tone is both darkly humorous and intensely dramatic, capturing the excesses of the elite and the destructive consequences of their actions. Wade’s incisive dialogue and richly drawn characters offer a scathing critique of the British class system and the entitlement of the ruling class.
