Synopsis

A dimly lit Iron Bridge in East London, where two teenagers in oversized jackets share stolen moments and dreams.

Debris and S Vyper, two young MCs from working-class backgrounds, navigate the treacherous waters of adolescence in a world where grime music offers both escape and identity. As Debris grapples with her Mormon upbringing and a suffocating home life, S Vyper becomes her lifeline, introducing her to the transformative power of lyrics and beats. Their friendship, forged in the crucible of East London’s estates, becomes a beacon of hope amidst the chaos of family trauma, racial tension, and societal expectations.

Stevenson’s play pulses with the raw energy of grime, using the genre’s staccato rhythms and fierce wordplay to explore themes of identity, belonging, and artistic expression. The narrative weaves between past and present, memory and reality, creating a tapestry of sound and emotion that mirrors the fragmented experiences of its young protagonists. Through Debris’ journey from silenced teenager to empowered artist, the play examines the transformative power of music and the complex intersections of race, class, and gender in urban Britain. The dialogue crackles with authenticity, balancing moments of searing honesty with flashes of dark humor, while the use of grime tracks and live performance elements immerses the audience in the vibrant, often misunderstood world of UK street culture.
