Synopsis

Lady George Grayston’s house

Pearl Saunders, an American heiress who relocates to England and marries Lord George Grayston, hoping to ascend the social ladder. However, her illusions are shattered when she overhears her new husband revealing his true intentions of marrying her solely for her money.

As Pearl navigates her new life, she becomes increasingly cynical and adept at maneuvering through the social intricacies of the British elite. The narrative also follows her younger sister Bessie, an innocent heiress who arrives in London and experiences the stark contrast between her idealistic views and the reality of high society. The play humorously and poignantly critiques the superficial values and the transactional nature of marriages among the upper class.
