Synopsis

1970s London. In the wake of political unrest, the personal and political collide in a stark examination of middle-class discontent

Jule and Madge, two middle class sisters, navigate the turbulent waters of personal relationships and political activism. Jule, a would-be terrorist, hides out with her radical boyfriend, Eric, after being indicted on minor drug charges and suspected of more severe crimes, including a possible bombing. Their chaotic existence starkly contrasts with Madge and her partner, Arthur, embodying the quiet desperation of middle-class domesticity.

Churchill’s play is a critique of the sexual and political repression faced by women. The play, despite its mixed reviews, marks a significant exploration of feminist and political themes through Churchill’s innovative dramatic techniques.
