Synopsis

Mapuche, Chile

Carmen stands resolutely in her modest home, the flicker of candlelight casting long shadows on the rough wooden walls, each flickering a testament to her resilience. The play opens in the quiet, tension-filled night of a rural village, where Carmen, a fierce and nurturing Mapuche woman, prepares maté, her movements deliberate and heavy with anticipation.

Ñuke oscillates between past and present, capturing the cyclical nature of violence and the enduring spirit of the Mapuche people. The stark, rural setting is brought to life through vivid descriptions of the land—lush yet fraught with the scars of conflict.
