Synopsis

A nameless Girl, embarks on a harrowing journey of survival and resilience. The play follows the Girl as she is separated from her mother, transported in a lorry with other women and children, and then subjected to unspeakable abuse at the hands of men in a distant town. Throughout her ordeal, the Girl finds strength in a stone given to her by her mother, which symbolizes the hopes and intentions that span across time. The play explores themes of human trafficking, sexual abuse, the power of hope, and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of unimaginable adversity.

“No One Disaster is Total” is a non-linear, episodic short play that incorporates elements of poetry and symbolism. The play is designed for at least three actors who take on multiple roles, with the characters’ lines often left unassigned, creating a sense of universality and shared experience. The minimalist staging and the use of a stone as a central symbol contribute to the play’s haunting and thought-provoking atmosphere. Throughout the play, the narrative is punctuated by a series of unsettling questions and the recurring motif of a shutter clicking and lights flashing, which serve to underscore the harsh realities faced by the characters and the broader issues of human trafficking and abuse.
