Synopsis

Chris, a writer grappling with his own story, weaves together the lives of several men across London on a single day. From Jeff, an elderly man confronting his past, to Rufus, a troubled young boy exploring his sexuality, to Brian, a grieving father seeking solace in online pornography, the play paints a raw and unflinching portrait of masculinity in crisis. As news breaks of a soldier’s brutal murder, each character navigates their own personal turmoil against the backdrop of a city on edge.

Goode’s visceral, stream-of-consciousness style blurs the lines between reality and fantasy, memory and present moment. The play tackles themes of violence, sexuality, grief, and alienation with unflinching honesty. Through a series of interconnected vignettes, “Men in the Cities” explores the complex inner lives of its characters, revealing the vulnerability and rage that simmer beneath the surface of modern urban life. The result is a challenging, provocative work that forces audiences to confront uncomfortable truths about masculinity, violence, and the struggle for human connection in an increasingly fractured world.
