Synopsis

London, 1969

Ted Hutchins is a 12-year-old boy, who navigates a series of escalating crises London. The play opens with Ted, his brother Mike, and their friend Spencer, a factory worker at Battersea Power Station. Amidst the excitement of the moon landing, Ted warns of a nuclear alert at the power station. The group flees, encountering a beggar named Steve, who joins them. As they grapple with the aftermath, including Spencer’s worsening health, they seek refuge and purpose, ultimately securing positions as environmental advisors to the Queen at Buckingham Palace. The narrative concludes with a reflection on their journey and the broader environmental crises.

The play’s themes and style are a blend of dark comedy and social commentary, addressing environmental issues, social inequality, and the impact of industrialisation.
