Synopsis

Lemn Sissay, an acclaimed poet, playwright, broadcaster, and actor, shares his life story through a profound and emotional lens. Raised in the care system, Lemn takes legal action against social services for stealing his life, culminating in a 5-hour psychological assessment that becomes the centerpiece of this performance. The Report, a detailed medical assessment, unveils the intricate and painful details of Lemn’s life experiences and his journey through the care system.

As Lemn approaches his 50th birthday, he invited the public to witness the first reading of this assessment live on the Royal Court stage. The play is structured around the reading of The Report, blending stark realism with poetic reflections. The tone is raw and unfiltered, capturing the emotional and psychological impact of the assessment on Lemn. The audience becomes a part of this intimate and cathartic experience, highlighting themes of abuse, resilience, and identity.
