Synopsis

Hershel Fink, a character bewildered by his identity is in dialogue with a Voice of God (VoG). As Hershel questions his existence and identity, VoG reveals the broader narrative exploring Jewish identity, stereotypes, and cultural misunderstandings. The play unfolds through a series of personal monologues and interviews with various Jewish individuals, each recounting their experiences and perspectives on antisemitism, cultural heritage, and societal perceptions. The setting is fluid, moving between abstract conversations and vivid personal anecdotes, creating a rich tapestry of Jewish life and challenges.

The play addresses themes such as identity, antisemitism, and cultural heritage with a blend of satire and documentary theatre. The tone is both introspective and confrontational, aiming to provoke thought and dialogue about deep-seated prejudices and misconceptions. The style is verbatim theatre, using real testimonies and interviews to construct a narrative that is both authentic and impactful. The form is episodic, structured around individual stories that together form a comprehensive picture of contemporary Jewish experiences. The tone fluctuates between poignant and humorous, capturing the complexity of Jewish identity in the modern world.
