Synopsis

Inside Bitch is a play that breaks down the stereotypes and misconceptions about women in prison, offering a raw and authentic look at their lives. Devised by the women of Clean Break and directed by Stacey Gregg and Deborah Pearson, the play is set within a theatre, but it unfolds like a dynamic and participatory documentary. Through a series of vignettes, the performers—Lucy Edkins, Jennifer Joseph, TerriAnn Oudjar, and Jade Small—share their stories with humour and poignancy, challenging the audience’s preconceptions and highlighting the stark reality of the prison system.

The play utilises various theatrical techniques such as multimedia presentations, direct audience interactions, and verbatim monologues, creating a layered and immersive experience. The narrative structure is intentionally fragmented, reflecting the chaotic and multifaceted nature of the women’s experiences. Themes of representation, prejudice, and resilience are explored, making the play both a powerful social commentary and a celebration of the women’s strength and authenticity.
