Synopsis
Windsor Castle, 1817
George III, a once-powerful monarch, now finds himself trapped in the labyrinth of his own mind. Set in the decaying splendour of Windsor Castle in 1817, the play captures the King’s final days, illustrating the poignant descent into madness. In the eerie quiet of the King’s apartment, George III, now an old man in a violet dressing gown, struggles with the disintegration of his faculties. His interactions with an imagined court, the haunting memories of his family, and the ghostly whispers of history reflect a once-glorious reign now reduced to ruin. As he clings to fragments of reality, the play poignantly explores themes of power, madness, and the relentless passage of time. The room, filled with reminders of the past—decayed papers, an old harpsichord—mirrors the King’s fractured state, making his tragic isolation palpable.
