Synopsis

A surreal, dreamlike landscape on the road to the mythical city of Tar

Fando, alternating between tenderness and cruelty, pushes his paraplegic companion Lis through a series of surreal encounters that blur the lines between reality and nightmare. Their quest for the mystical city of Tar becomes a twisted allegory for the human search for meaning in an incomprehensible universe.

Arrabal’s play is a masterclass in Theatre of the Absurd, employing disjointed dialogue, grotesque imagery, and dark humor to explore themes of alienation, existential angst, and the complexity of human relationships. Through its non-linear narrative and rich symbolism, Fando and Lis challenges audiences to confront the futility of seeking external validation and the often cruel nature of love.
