Synopsis
Wastewater Lane, during the Cuban revolution
Yuli is a young woman navigating faith and hardship in a vibrant yet struggling Havana (Callejón Desagüe). Set in the backdrop of Wastewater Lane, the narrative weaves through the lives of Yuli and her neighbors as they grapple with the everyday challenges and broader political shifts in Cuba. Yuli, determined and resilient, deals with personal dilemmas while caring for her ailing grandfather, Teto, and dreaming of a better future amidst the lingering effects of the Cuban revolution.
The play intricately explores themes of personal struggle, community resilience, and the socio-political landscape of contemporary Cuba. As Yuli interacts with a cast of richly drawn characters, including her love interest Marcos, and other vibrant figures like Zenaidita and Simón, the story delves into their collective hopes, disappointments, and the stark realities of life in a country at a crossroads. The narrative is punctuated by moments of humor, tenderness, and profound reflection, capturing the essence of Cuban spirit and endurance.
