Synopsis

A community center in Shirley, Vermont

Marty, a 55-year-old woman, leads a group of four individuals through an acting class. Over the course of six weeks, Marty, along with her husband James, 16-year-old Lauren, recently divorced Schultz, and former actress Theresa, engage in various acting exercises that reveal their innermost secrets and desires. The play unfolds within the confines of a windowless dance studio, where the characters’ interactions and personal growth are mirrored by the reflective wall behind them.

The play explores themes of self-discovery, personal transformation, and human connection. It is a drama with elements of dark comedy and social realism, structured in an episodic format with a linear narrative. The setting of the dance studio serves as a microcosm for the characters’ emotional journeys, providing a space for vulnerability, growth, and unexpected revelations.
