Synopsis

Selina Thompson takes center stage in her bold and provocative performance piece “Chewing The Fat.” In this unique show, Thompson dives into the deeply personal and universal subject of fat, examining societal perceptions, personal experiences, and the complexities of body image. Set in an intimate space, the performance oscillates between a late-night confessional and a vibrant celebration, filled with glitter, chicken, and rice-pudding pinatas. Thompson’s charismatic and candid presence invites the audience to engage with her journey through a mix of humor, raw honesty, and striking visual imagery.

The play explores themes of body image, societal beauty standards, and self-acceptance. It is a live art performance with elements of dark comedy and social commentary, structured in a non-linear narrative that combines personal anecdotes, interactive moments, and metaphorical scenes. The setting is dynamic, moving from the warmth of a midnight feast to the stark reality of societal judgment, creating an immersive and thought-provoking experience.
