Synopsis

New York City, a melting pot of cultures and dreams. Two Chilean students meet at a party, their lives about to intertwine against the backdrop of homesickness, ambition, and the search for identity.

José and Aurora, two Chilean students in New York, navigate the complexities of love, cultural identity, and personal growth. Their relationship blossoms from a chance meeting at a Chilean Independence Day party in Brooklyn, evolving through shared experiences of studying abroad, grappling with their place in the world, and the inevitable challenges of returning home. As they face the realities of life back in Chile – from failed ambitions to unexpected pregnancies – they must confront the changes in themselves and each other.

Camila Le-Bert’s Chan! is a poignant exploration of the immigrant experience and the universal struggle of finding one’s place in the world. Through a non-linear narrative that spans several years, the play delves into themes of cultural displacement, identity, and the bittersweet nature of personal growth. The play’s structure mirrors the disjointed nature of memory and the ways in which we construct our personal narratives, offering a nuanced portrayal of love, loss, and the ongoing process of self-discovery.
