Synopsis

Greg, a man haunted by the death of his son Calvin in a tragic fire, is the central figure in Laura Lomas’s emotionally charged play “Broken Dreams.” Set in various locations including a pub, a council housing office, and Greg’s flat, the play explores the aftermath of the fire that took Calvin’s life and Greg’s subsequent struggle with guilt and grief. As Greg navigates his relationships with friends, community members, and bureaucrats, he wrestles with the memories of Calvin and the life-altering impact of the fire.

The play delves into themes of grief, guilt, and social injustice. It is a drama with elements of social realism and dark comedy, structured in a linear narrative that captures the stark realities of Greg’s life and his internal battle with his emotions. The settings are meticulously crafted to reflect the bleakness of Greg’s circumstances and the systemic failures that contributed to the tragedy.
