Synopsis

The stark, claustrophobic confines of a dingy bedroom

A Daughter, is confined to a bed, her back twisted and her spirit crushed. Opposite her is her Dad, a large, ill-looking man in a soiled suit. Their lives are entwined in a toxic dance of recrimination and dependency. The Daughter’s life is a cacophony of pain and desperation, narrated through fragmented memories and the relentless tyranny of her father’s voice. Her existence is a cycle of panic and exhaustion, with moments of fleeting hope crushed by the suffocating reality of her imprisonment.

As the Daughter reminisces, we glimpse the oppressive world beyond the bed. Her father’s past is a jumble of violent outbursts and twisted ambitions. He recounts his journey from a driven young man to a broken shell, his life a series of futile attempts to impose order and meaning. The narrative is raw and visceral, painting a vivid picture of their shared squalor and despair. Themes of entrapment, familial duty, and the destructive power of delusion permeate the play. Walsh’s use of language is brutal and poetic, capturing the stark, unrelenting reality of lives consumed by failure and regret.
